Civic Action Planning Progress and Input
Last year UNI, as a member of Iowa Campus Compact, committed to developing a Civic Action Plan. The Civic Action Plan will be UNI's implementation of Goal #3 - Community Engagement.
Community engagement is defined as the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in the context of partnership and reciprocity.
The purpose of community engagement is the partnership of college and university knowledge and resources with those of the public and private sectors to enrich scholarship, research, and creative activity; enhance curriculum, teaching, and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen democratic values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good.
The Civic Action Planning Team has selected an approach in which the institution’s identity is tied to an overarching engagement commitment. The opportunities for community engagement will be varied, but structured, to give every student a meaningful experience.
In our commitment to developing a Civic Action Plan, UNI embraces the following:
