The mission of the Imagining America consortium (IA) brings together scholars, artists, designers, humanists, and organizers to imagine, study, and enact a more just and liberatory ‘America’ and world. Working across institutional, disciplinary, and community divides, IA strengthens and promotes public scholarship, cultural organizing, and campus change that inspires collective imagination, knowledge-making, and civic action on pressing public issues. By dreaming and building together in public, IA creates the conditions to shift culture and transform inequitable institutional and societal structures.
Current Projects: Story Circles
As a special part of this story circle project, we are seeking four creative professionals (visual artist, musician, writer, and theater artist) to pilot their own local, racial healing story circle in Waterloo or Cedar Falls. Using funds generously provided by the Cedar Falls Art and Culture Board and the Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Northern Iowa, each artist will be awarded a $600 honorarium upon completion of their project using the Seed Packet to host a story circle with support from Imagining America at UNI, and to produce and share publicly a creative work inspired by the stories that came out of the circle.
Those who are interested will need to complete this application by 4:00pm December 31, 2020. Members of Imagining America at UNI will select the four artists by January 11, 2021. Artists will be expected to host their story circle within the months of January and March 2021 and be ready to share their work publicly by May 10, 2021. The creative work will be promoted and shared by Imagining America at UNI however, it will remain the creative property of the individual artist. Please share this opportunity with anyone who may be interested! Let me know if you have any questions. You can also reach out to Imagining America at UNI at firstname.lastname@example.org.
